The story I wrote below is an Alternative Ending I did for a book project in English. Rather than have the students write a book report, which could easily be copied from the internet, Ms. Noyce had us choose from a verity of book projects that spoke to each student individually. From writing to something more artistic it felt as if the options were limitless. I chose to write a different ending because I did not like how that book ended. It was a happy ending and in a book so full of misery, that was just unacceptable. Not everything has to turn out goo in the end, and this is why what I wrote was.. well rather dark.
The book was Never Enough by Denise Jaden, and to fully understand why I wrote what I did, reading the book first would be helpful. Enjoy. |

Where do I begin. Art has let me escape and see the world differently. I've had to stop, and focus on the world to see it as small sections rather than a GIANT piece, which had made me realize all the beautiful things. This piece in particular is one I am very proud of. I had to get the color wheel down to the T so that I wouldn't mess anything up.
The central idea for my work was using the split complementary theme, using the primary colors red, yellow, and blue. By dulling and tinting, I realized that purple can be made by dulling red. To create a littler purple, you take the dulled red and tint it to the shade of your liking. Even though my whole painting was blocked out, by following the values on the original picture it made it easier to produce shadows in the areas that needed to be recognized as shadows. I used purples, blues, and some teals to help enhance the shadows. By using a darker shade of tan, it helped it look not so cartoon like which I was at first. I made a black like and surrounded it around my face, hairline, eyes, and lips hoping it would define the lines more. The lines just made it look fake, so I dotted all the correct colors to fix my mistake. While painting my hair, I died it threw out the painting so it was darker when I was done painting it rather than when I started, and was pulled back, so I let my luscious locks flow. I added a variety of browns and blacks to it giving it an almost natural looking look. I had a blast doing my eyes. Realizing that they are mainly green but are rimmed with blue, and have slight flecks in the retina it was amazing to me! My mouth, well that was a struggle. I must have tries making my lip 5 different colors, and redone my teeth 10 or so times. That was where my biggest struggle fell. I tried to accentuate my dazzling smile that I am so proud of, but failing quite a few times. Not drawing out each individual tooth was hard, but I finally did it! And I am mostly happy with the outcome. I was sad when we didn’t photograph the other side of my face where my well known dimple is places, It's faintly there on my left cheek but wasn’t really visible. |

For Critical thinking, I chose my Under God persuasive essay. We had to write about the opposing view, and well I am very opinionated. To take back all judgement I had towards the pledge, and to agree with the side I didn't understand. I couldn't however let the reader know I didn't support what I was claiming to, and boy was that hard. I had to step out of my comfort zone completely and go for something I was completely against. I learned a lot, but it hurt my brain

The reason I chose this paper for Critical Thinking, was because I wouldn't input my opinion at all. I had to take my views on School Dress-Codes, and then find credible sources to back up what I thought.
It was more difficult than what I had originally thought, mainly because all of the the sources I found were not credible. The ones I found were mainly over feminist, bloggers or people whining on Facebook. I did, however, come across credible sources which were then incorporated into the essay. |
